EAST LANSING, MI (WILX) - Sparrow Hospital recognized two volunteers with 50 years of service at an event in East Lansing.

Mary Jessup of Dimondale and Lillian Long of Okemos began volunteering at Sparrow when man first walked on the moon and Ricard Nixon was just beginning his first term in office.

On Wednesday, the two women received their 50-year service award from Sparrow.

Jessup began at Sparrow by delivering cookies, baked by her mother, to the Sparrow Gift Shop.

She is a former president of the Women's Board of Managers, a past recipient of the Sparrow Founders' Award, and to this day continues to volunteer at the hospital.

Lillian has served as a volunteer in pediatrics, as a patient escort, and she now serves in the Heart Center family lounge.

The event also honored the over 130 individuals to volunteer their time at Sparrow.
