NBC News (NBC) - Hancock Public Schools in Michigan were dismissed early Thursday morning after it was discovered the roof of a classroom in Barkell Elementary School had caved in.
The roof collapse is being attributed to snow build-up from recent snowfall and drifts.
The damage was discovered early Thursday morning, but at that point, students were already on their way to school.
School officials decided to bus the elementary students over to the area high school and then send all students home.
No one was injured in the collapse, and the damage is being assessed.
Classes for Friday were also canceled.
School administrators plan on having students back in school Monday morning.
