The capital steps were filled with hundreds of people protesting immigration issues Friday.
The nationwide effort is calling for changes in the separation of families and the detention centers down at the southern border.
Organizers say the event is especially important for the city of Lansing.
"It means everything to Lansing, this event is about ending camps and ending terrible conditions on our soil, it's really important to the Lansing community because we are a community of people from all over, we are a community of immigrants," Ethan Schmitt, lead organizer of the rally, said.
The event is just one of many taking place across the nation to protest the situation at the southern border.
