LANSING, MI (WILX) - Making struggling families a priority was the hot topic on Wednesday as a broad coalition of organizations from across the state called on Michigan leaders to increase the Michigan's Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The group held a press conference on June 12, urging support of Gov. Whitmer proposal to increase the tax credit.

The coalition ranged from faith organizations, worker advocacy groups, anti-poverty organizations, and many others.

The proposal hopes to double the Michigan EITC from 6% to 12%.

Raising the EITC would really help out and benefit low-income families that are struggling.

Officials say that the extra income helps pay for food, medical care, and transportation.
