Protesters camp out near Michigan Capitol overnight; call for Andy Schor to resign
Protesters gathered at 4:00 pm on Tuesday near the Michigan State Capitol and about 40 people camped out overnight until about 7 A.M. The group of protesters say they are there to fight against police brutality and are also calling on Lansing Mayor Andy Schor to resign.
News 10 spoke with members of the group Tuesday afternoon about why they are continuing to push for Mayor Andy Schor to resign.
The group wouldn't give specific answers, but said the mayor went against his word.
"Let's just say we don't want you here man and you know what happened," said protester Alex Balderas. "We don't need to discuss it, we know what happened, you know what happened, I'm not going to put you on blast yet. You know what happened."
News 10 reached out to both Schor and Lansing Police on Tuesday asking for comment on the protests and calls for Schor's resignation, but have not heard back from either.
News 10 also asked group leader Paul Birdsong where and when the group of protesters plan to protest next. Birdsong declined to answer, saying, "We want Andy Schor to resign."
