Holt postal worker charged with stealing gift cards, cash
A local postal worker is charged with theft of mail contents.
Shamick Jones was charged Dec. 18 in the U.S. District Court Southern Division of the Western District of Michigan on the charges of theft of mail contents by a postal service employee between February and June.
Jones was a rural carrier associate for the USPS in Holt when she stole the money and gift cards, according to court documents.
"The defendant opened greeting card envelopes and stole gift cards and cash from those envelopes which had come into her possession, and which were intended to be conveyed by mail," according to the documents.
If convicted, Jones faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine and mandatory restitution.
