PORTLAND, MI (WILX) -- In Portland, the "all clear" has been given to residents with homes near Grand River and West.

Crews responded to a gas breach in Portland on May 23, 2019, which forced an evacuation of at least 12 homes. (Source: WILX)

The city is also stating that Grand River Avenue is open to traffic.

This follows Thursday's evacuation for what police called "a large gas main breach."

That breach was believed to have been caused by what authorities are calling a "horizontal drill," or auger.

Ionia County Central Dispatch posted to Facebook around 3:45 p.m. that residents were being evacuated and taken to City Hall.

They stated to avoid the area and Grand River Avenue was closed to traffic.
