UPDATE - Armed robbery suspects taken into custody

Meridian Township police have released more information about a morning armed robbery at the Medawar Jewelers on Grand River Avenue in Okemos.

Police say a man and a woman came into the store and pulled a handgun. They took merchandise from the store and then fled on foot.

Police tracked them to an area between Okemos Road, Park Lake road south of the railroad tracks and Grand River Avenue. Multiple departments assisted with search, including officers from Meridian Township Police, East Lansing Police, MSU Police, the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, and the Michigan State Police. A Michigan State Police helicopter was also used in the search.

Police attempted to use a canine to track the pair of suspects and later called in a tactical team with multiple dogs to help with the search.

The suspects were found at 2:13 PM, and were taken into custody without incident. They were found west of Gaylord C. Smith Drive, south of the railroad tracks. Police say they are one man and one woman in their 20s.

The couple is not expected to be arraigned today. News 10 will continue to follow this case and will have updates as their case moves forward.

Medawar Jewelers says that all of their employees are safe; no one was hurt during the robbery, and the store was not damaged. They say two employees were at the store at the time of the robbery.

The suspects took merchandise, but only stock items from the store. The pair did not get any client jewelry that was in the store awaiting repair.

The robbery took place at 10:41 AM on Grand River Avenue. The suspects are believed to be on foot, west of Okemos Road and south of the railroad tracks.

Suspect 1 is a woman wearing a white sleeveless T-Shirt with short brown hair. Suspect 2 is a man wearing a white T-shirt.

Police say people in the area should lock their doors, and if they spot the suspects to call 911.
