BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WILX) -- Police in Jackson County are investigating a jewelry heist that might be connected to other thefts in the state.
Several suspects ordered people to get on the ground and smashed jewelry cases at Zales, 1717 W. Michigan Ave., at 8:09 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, Blackman-Leoni Public Safety Director Mike Jester said.
A "substantial amount of jewelry" was taken, Jester said.
No arrests have been made in the case.
But police are looking into if the theft is related to a jewelry heist in Kalamazoo County on Saturday, Oct. 5.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office asked other agencies to watch for two vehicles believed to be related to the heist.
Blackman-Leoni officers saw the vehicles, Jester said.
One of the vehicles was stopped on I-94 in Jackson County, he said.
The other vehicle led police on a chase that ended in a crash in Van Buren Charter Township.
The suspects tried to run away.
But, with the help of a Blackman-Leoni K9 and a Michigan State Police helicopter, they were arrested.
The suspects have since been turned over to Kalamazoo County, Jester said.
