The two-day search for a missing Lansing woman has come to a sad end.

Police said a body found in the Grand River appears to be that of Shalyn Manson.

Manson's closest friends have said they are heartsick and shell shock at the moment.

Her parents told News 10 that they'd been estranged from her for a while. However, they said that didn't make them feel any less devastated when they got the news on Friday.

"I remember the day Shalyn was born and Patty looked at me like she just got the best Christmas present she had," said Jim Maddix, Shalyn Manson's father.

Shalyn Manson went missing on Wednesday, Nov. 14. Her car was found near the 800 block of Moores River Drive.

"In disbelief that this is even happening; you don't expect to hear about anybody that you love to be missing. But you're hoping for an outcome to be that they find them alive," said Patricia Maddix, Shalyn Manson's mother.

Police made another attempt to find her on Friday afternoon. Dive teams from Ingham County, Lansing Police and state police found what appeared to be her body in the river.

Although her mother, Patricia Maddix, admits that she and her daughter had not been on good terms for years, Friday was still heartbreaking.

"Whenever there was anything that was a challenge, she always met it with she would get through this, even if it was with angry. It was never about not doing anything, so I couldn't picture her just walking into the river," said Patricia Maddix.

Maddix said that she and Shalyn stopped talking because of different lifestyles and viewpoints.

She said that the time without her has them gripping to the good times they did have with her.

"We have always loved her and we've missed her terribly," said Patricia.

"Use her as a lesson, don't let the bad times bring you down," said Jim Maddix.

Police have not officially determined if this was a homicide or suicide but they say there are no signs of foul play at this time.
