DeWitt Ox Roast draws huge crowd for 74th year

DEWITT, MI (WILX) -- It wouldn't be a Mid-Michigan summer without everyone's favorite, the Dewitt Ox Roast.

This year, the three-day event celebrated its 74th year of family fun for the area. And they saved the best activities for Sunday.

Families were able to enjoy a dog show and carnival rides all day long.

But it wasn't all fun and games, there was also some competitions.

Many were able to go head-to-head in a kayaking race and ice cream eating contest.

The big thing this year: a new design.

"This year we were really looking to see how the design would actually transpire, how strong it would be and we've had just a tremendous response and we probably tripled our attendance over previous years," said Loretta Spinrad, DeWitt Ox Roast Organizer.

Organizers say that more than 10,000 people came out to the event.

Even though Sunday concluded this year's Ox Roast, organizers are already starting to plan an even bigger roast next for their 75th anniversary.
