LANSING, MI (WILX/CNN) -- Old Navy is planning to 800 new stores.
On Thursday, Sept. 12 at its investor event, Old Navy, which has about 1200 stores, announced it wants to reach 2,000 locations by opening stores.
The stores would be in smaller, under-served markets, according to Old Navy.
Old Navy expects to open up around 75 stores a year, focusing away from struggling malls.
This is the company's first major announcement since the Gap, its parent company, announced it would spin off the lower-priced brand.
The Gap said in February that it plans to spin off Old Navy into a public company in 2020.
Old Navy did not give a timeline on the expansion plans and there's no word on where any stores will be opening in Michigan.
