LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- The first snowflakes of the season started falling Friday morning, but crews were ready.
Road crews are ready to treat the roads.
Bill Conklin with the Ingham County Road Department says, "We do use salt and a sand mix, particularly on our rural roads where there are shoulders. We don't use so much sand in the urban areas where we have curb and gutter and closed storm drains because that clogs those up. There we use mostly salt but out in our rural areas, we use a mixture of sand to get the salt to stretch a little bit further."
Michigan State Police are urging drivers to use extra caution.
Lieutenant Darren Green says, "It's just people going too fast for conditions. Vehicles handling capabilities are severely diminished because of inclement weather. The driver is then responsible for operating their vehicles at a safe enough speed."
