East Lansing, Mich. (WILX) -- Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the Odyssey Of The World Mind Finals and it was hosted at Michigan State University.
Students from all around the world gathered to compete in the 2019 Odyssey Of The Mind World Finals and it took them months to prepare.
Nearly 900 teams competed in multiple events that put students creative minds to the test in solving problems and performing.
Pam Gombert, the Association Director for Odyssey Of The Mind in Michigan said, "We love being the host state -- and to see, there's thirteen countries here as well as quite a few states."
Some students even traveled from Houston, Texas to compete and they encourage all students to join.
"Anybody can join any team," Said Maximiliano Andres Cedillo from Helms Elementary.
One of the events throughout the day involved a creative, artistic skit, and one student from Georgia said it took a lot to prepare.
"We spent months and months and months and months and hours gluing everything on to our costumes and our set.
It was just a lot of work so it's been very validating to come here and perform," said Noah Smith from Artios Academies of Lilburn Georgia.
Even the younger groups from Michigan are getting a head start on their Odyssey journey.
"It's just like fun to be here, seeing all these other kids our age," Said Donovan from Lakes Elementary in Rockford, Michigan.
Those who started this program at a young age are still involved.
"To be in this position where I can just help these students like, it's probably one of the most amazing things I've ever been a part of," said Assistant Problem Captain, Michael Taylor.
At 7PM there will be an award ceremony that takes place at Breslin Center, and all the hard work the students put into the competition will pay off.
