IONIA CO., Mich. (WILX) -- A multi-vehicle crash occurred on Monday at approximately 11:30 a.m. in Ionia County.

Deputies say they were dispatched to the area of westbound I-96 near S. State Road where a driver of a commercial vehicle didn't slow down approaching a construction zone and caused a chain reaction.

Five vehicles were involved in the crash, with two people taken to hospitals in Grand Rapids.

The sheriff's office wants to remind drivers that construction season is here, "be attentive to changing traffic conditions and watch for unexpected traffic backups."
