New ice-skating rink at Washington Park

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- Washington Park is opening a new ice-skating rink in an effort to bring the community together.

The open-air rink will be open Thursday night, then everyday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will close when the temperature is too warm to keep the ice frozen.

Admittance is free and the rink will provide proper lighting and public restrooms.

However, the rink will not provide ice skates nor concessions and hockey will not be permitted on the ice.

Mayor Andy Schor said, "With the cooperation of the weather, the ice rink will be yet another great amenity for our residents."

The 55' x 90' rink will be maintained and watered everyday, weather permitting.

The rink will be an open, contained area where people can come to ice skate.

In previous years the park had a full indoor ice rink that kept the ice frozen continually, however due to budgetary limitations the rink was removed.

Skaters use the new rink at their own risk.
