The Lansing based Homeless Angels organization hosted their first Christmas store, allowing parents who pre-registered to pick out free toys to give to their children for Christmas.
The event was held at St. Casimir's Old School, located at 800 West Barnes Road in Lansing,
Hundreds of people showed up for the event both Saturday and Sunday, causing staff to bring people into the building by groups.
Free smartphones were available to those that qualified.
Many parents in attendance were thankful for the opportunity.
“If it wasn’t for them my kids would have nothing,” said Elizabeth Baldwin, a shopper at the event. “I’m getting stuff for my three-year-old and my two-year-old and I’m really excited about doing it and getting them stuff they can enjoy."
A gift wrapping station was available for people to wrap gifts.
A traditional free store was held for the general public to grab what they needed for the holiday season.
The free store included shoes, clothes, and toys.
The organization says they will be holding the free stores again next Christmas, but plan on getting rid of the registration process.
The organization is still accepting donations which can be dropped off at The Common in Williamston located at 201 School Street.
