BOSTON, Mass. (WILX) - Prior to the start of today's Boston Marathon competitors were concerned with the severe weather in the Northeast, but fortunately it cleared out in time for the start of the race.
The women's field had four Americans that were major contenders, one hailing from Michigan.
But it was Worknesh Degefa of Ethiopia who took the early lead.
She kept it and won the race with a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 31 seconds.
Michigander Des Linden, the 2018 Boston Marathon Champion, came in fifth this year.
On the men's side, it was a *very* close race for all 26.2 miles.
It came down to the finish.
It was there that Kenya's Lawrence Chereno took the win by less than one second.
He finished the race in 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 57 seconds.
This year's race was the 123rd edition of this Boston tradition.
