South Carolina beats Michigan in Outback Bowl

TAMPA, Fla. (WILX) FINAL SCORE: South Carolina beats Michigan 26-19 in Outback Bowl.


On New Year's Day, the Michigan Wolverines will have a chance to cap the Big Ten's undefeated streak in its bowl games.

Michigan (8-4) takes on the South Carolina Gamecocks (8-4) in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida on Monday.

A win by the Wolverines would cap the Big Ten’s bowl-season record at 8-0. Kickoff is set for noon and the game can be seen on ESPN2. The game will also be broadcasted on 950-AM (WWJ) and 1050-AM (WTKA).

Michigan finished the regular season with two losses to top 10 teams, Wisconsin and Ohio State.

South Carolina is coming off a 34-10 loss to #1 Clemson.

The last time the Wolverines and the Gamecocks played each other was in the 2013 Outback Bowl. South Carolina won that game 33-28.

Monday's game is the third overall time the two schools have played each other.

South Carolina won 17-14 in Ann Arbor in 1980 behind Heisman Trophy winning running back George Rogers.

In 1985, QB Jim Harbaugh led Michigan to a 34-3 win in Columbia, South Carolina. Harbaugh hit 12 of 22 passes for 164 yards and ran for 45 yards for a touchdown.

This is the sixth trip to the Outback Bowl for Michigan. The Wolverines have a 3-2 record.

This is South Carolina's fifth Outback Bowl appearance. The Gamecocks have a 3-1 record.
