LANSING, MI (WILX) - Rugby players from throughout Michigan came to Lansing on Saturday to participate in the Michigan Rugby Cup.

The all day event at the Hope Sports Complex featured match ups between 12 teams, including the Lansing Crisis Rugby Football Club.

Teams from Detroit, Kalamazoo, Toledo, and Traverse City also made the trek to the state capital.

Players say it is incredible to see how the sport has grown over the last several years

"Years ago, there were only like three teams in Michigan," said Nick Zuber, a rugger on the Lansing squad.

He added, "You had to drive an hour to play, whereas now, there's so many teams that, especially on the men's league, there's you know, a team for almost everybody within a half hour to go to."

This year's tournament was the third time the greater Lansing region has hosted this event.
