LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- Michigan Lottery is changing its identification requirements for claiming prizes.

As of Jan. 1, a government-issued ID and Social Security card both will be required in order to claim prizes won playing the Michigan Lottery, according to a press release.

Medicare cards were accepted previously because they included the player's Social Security number. These cards will no longer include the SSN, so will no longer be valid identification for claims, according to the release.

Players claiming their winnings will be required to show their valid Social Security card and one of the following:
• Driver's license with photo and expiration date
• State issued picture identification card with photo and expiration date
• Carry-Concealed Weapons license with photo and expiration date
• Military ID with photo and expiration date
• Passport with photo and expiration date
• Passport Card with photo and expiration date
• Permanent Resident Card with photo and expiration date
• Veterans' Health Identification card with photo and expiration date
