GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) A Grand Rapids man has been charged with dismembering a woman's body in his apartment.

The remains were discovered Sunday in the basement, but the woman's identity still hasn't been confirmed. Police are investigating whether it's the body of a Kalamazoo-area woman who was traveling to Grand Rapids and was last seen on Nov. 29.

Jared Chance, who has a criminal record, appeared in court Wednesday. He's charged with mutilating a dead body and concealing a death. He was not accompanied by a lawyer who could comment on the charges.

Police say they found blood in Chance's apartment and body parts outside the apartment.
