UPDATE: MSU Spartans defeat Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Prinstripe Bowl
The MSU Spartans have defeated Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the Pinstripe Bowl Friday 27 to 21.
It might not have been the season that Michigan State fans were expecting for the football team as they were 6-6 heading into the Pinstripe Bowl, but for Spartans, the season ended as well as it possibly could have as the team is now 7-6.
Michigan State Big Man Mike Panasuik scored the first touchdown of the game as an interception and went back for six.
"I really didn't believe it at first, but you know once I started turning, I turned towards the sideline and I just saw my team celebrating, and I ended up in the end-zone so it was pretty cool," he said.
After a wild back and forth first half, Michigan State struck first in the third quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Brian Lewerke to Cody White, and from there, the defense stood tall.
Michigan State took the lead against the Demon Deacons in the second half, winning the game.
"It was a wonderful feeling in the world for me to be able to come out and get a victory in our last game, and it speaks to our resiliency of this team and this senior class to be able to come together and get the bowl game and get our seventh win," Kenny Willekes, MSU defensive end, said.
"We were able to stop them in the second half and come away with a win, but great offense and performance really in the second half, we left some points off the board, but great performance," MSU Head Coach Mark Dantonio said.
In the win, Quarterback Lewerke also became the school's all-time leader for total offense passing Connor Cook.
"I did yeah, I knew his number I wasn't focused on trying to get any, obviously I just wanted to win, but to be able to get that and a win tonight, it's awesome"
Dantonio said he believes the win could springboard the program in next year's season.
This is the Spartan's 12th bowl in the last 13 years under Head Coach Mark Dantonio.
