MSP investigating weekend deadly crashes

WILX Michigan State Police are investigating a pair of crashes that killed two people over the weekend.

A two-vehicle accident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday on M-37/ Cherry Road in Thornapple Township, just south of the Barry County line.

Michigan State Police say an SUV lost control, crossed the center-line, and crashed into a van.

The driver of the minivan died at the scene.

His name hasn't been released, but he has been identified as a 76-year-old man from Battle Creek.

The man's passengers, a 77-year-old woman and 9-year-old girl were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, MSP said.

Less than two hours after that crash, Michigan State Police responded to another deadly crash in Allegan County.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 3:40 p.m. Sunday on 20th Street in Hopkins Township

Michigan State Police say an SUV lost control, left the road, and crashed into a tree.

The man driving the SUV, a 32-year-old from Hopkins, died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

WOOD-TV reports the crashes happened as police crews were responding to dozens of weather-related crashes.
