M.M.A.D. uses cookout to celebrate community differences

LANSING, MI (WILX) -- This weekend, Men Making A Difference hosted their 12th Annual Family Community Cookout.

Nearly 2,000 people came out for the event.

This event was free.

Organizers say this event is vital, especially with all of the violence that is going on in the community.

This weekend was to celebrate differences, in order to create stronger families and communities.

"Communities have not come together recently," said Dwayne Granar and Andrew Brewer, both organizers of M.M.A.D. "When I was a young man coming up, there wasn't that many shootings taking place because there used to be events that brought families together. So one of the reasons why we created this event is to begin to answer some of those questions that will answer some of these episodes of violence that have taken place."

M.M.A.D hopes to increase family activities, encourage positive fatherhood and volunteerism in the Lansing area.
