Local events to celebrate Veterans Day

Veterans Day is an official United States holiday, observed annually on November 11. It honors military veterans - that is, people who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Many communities are hosting events to commemorate the day. Here's a list that WILX has compiled.

Veterans Day events:

Bob Evans

is offering veterans and active duty military personnel the choice of one of six free meals on November 11 at all Bob Evans restaurants. The choice of select breakfast (available all day), lunch, and dinner menu items are:

• Stack of Hotcakes (Buttermilk or Multigrain)

• Fresh Baked Brioche French Toast

• Country Biscuit Breakfast

• Mini Sampler Breakfast

• Farm Boy Sandwich

• Country Fried Steak Dinner

will offer system-wide free rides to all military veterans on Saturday. To qualify for a free trip, veterans must present valid military ID upon boarding. Free rides will be extended to eligible riders throughout the service day.

The City of Lansing

, together with the Metro Lansing Veterans Commission, will sponsor their annual Veterans Day observance on Saturday, November 11th at Lansing Catholic High School, located at 501 Marshall Street in Lansing. The event is free and open to the public.

The event begins with a complimentary breakfast from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. in the school’s café area. Exhibit tables will be on site, with participation from service dog trainees, Blue Star Families and veterans service organizations. The Veterans Day Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the auditorium. The keynote speaker is Douglas Szczepanski, Jr., an Iraq War Purple Heart Recipient, Inspirational Speaker and Minister with the non-profit organization, Miracle Soldier Inc. The ceremony will also feature Color Guard, musical performances by the Lansing Catholic Choir, Lansing Eastern High School Band, Glen Erin Pipe Band and vocalist Mary Black Junttonen.

Texas Roadhouse

invites veterans and active duty members of the United States military to enjoy a FREE lunch on Saturday, November 11. For the seventh year, every Texas Roadhouse location across the country will participate in the free lunch event to honor the men and women of our armed forces. All veterans - including all active, retired or former United States military - can choose one of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, iced tea or coffee during lunch. Guests must show proof of service such as military or VA card, or discharge papers. It's happening from 11:00am – 2:00 pm at the following Texas Roadhouse locations:

Great Clips

is offering FREE haircuts to all active military and Veterans. Also to all non-military they will be giving a free haircut card to give to a service member they may know to thank them for their service.

Veterans Day pinning ceremony and Purple Heart presentation

- Jackson County veterans will be honored by Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) in a special ceremony at VFW Post 6056 in Springport on Saturday. During the ceremony, Congressman Walberg will also be presenting Vietnam-era veterans with their 50th anniversary lapel pin. This is happening

Saturday, November 11 at 5:30 PM at Adams-Rockey VFW Post 6056, 230 Mechanic Street in Springport.

Tanger Outlets Howell will be hosting an event to celebrate area Veterans and their dedication and sacrifice on behalf of the United States on Saturday, November 11. Tanger is partnering with Livingston County Veterans Affairs to honor a local veteran for his service as a United States Marine with a special Hero Care Package, which will include a $250 Tanger Gift Card, and items from stores at Tanger. A special mural honoring Veterans in our community will be unveiled. At 11:11 AM, Tanger Outlets Howell will hold a moment of silence, in recognition of the service of Veterans nationwide and around the world. The Boy Scout Color Guard will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and post the colors and musician Johnathan Dunn will perform a patriotic musical arrangement. Shoppers are encouraged to join the Hero Ceremony and write a note to a soldier on the provided Thank You cards, which will be delivered to service men and women through the A Million Thanks organization.
