Lansing Police warning residents about the latest phone scam

LANSING, MI (WILX) - The Lansing Police Department has a warning tonight about a phone scam going around.

A scammer is calling people claiming to be a sergeant with LPD.

The caller tells the individual to get in their car and drive to the police station.

They want to get the person out of their house, so the caller can break in.

The caller might also tell you that police are going to arrest you if you do not agree to pay them with a pre-paid credit card.

LPD says the agency would never operate in this way.

If you get one of these calls you are instructed to hang up, and contact local police.
