Lansing Diocese releases racism task force report

Today is marking a beginning.

That is how Bishop Earl Boyea of the Lansing Catholic Diocese described the release of racism task force report.

He said, "Racism is evil and inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church."

"My ultimate goal is this -- that our schools and diocese will accompany people of all races and ethnicities toward God."

Chairperson of the task force Dr. Joan Jackson Johnson says the main objective was to see if there was a problem with racism.

After more than a year, members found one of the biggest complaints is differential treatment of minorities.

The report recommends several fixes at different levels in the church.

Bishop Boyea, along with Catholic school administrators and diocesan leaders are expected to study the report.

Once a response is determined by Bishop Boyea, the response and the full report will be made available to the public.
