LANSING, MI (WILX) -- If you're looking to get a cat--the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter is the place for you.
This week, the shelter says over 70 cats and kittens have been moved up to the adoption floor after their spay and neuter surgeries were completed.
In previous years, the shelter says the average monthly cat intake over the summer is about 100-150 cats. In the month of July, the shelter said 277 cats and kittens were brought in.
The shelter said many of the kittens available for adoption were raised in volunteer foster homes since birth.
The shelter said there are about 120 cats available for adoption. If you're in the market to get a dog, the shelter said just under 20 dogs are available.
The high intake of cat numbers inspired the shelter to create the "Name Your Price" adoption special that is currently running. With this special, potential adopters are able to go through the regular adoption application and interview process, but instead of paying a set adoption fee, they are able to name their own price.
The shelter said dog adopters must still purchase a $15 dog license.
