Jackson man allegedly makes a bomb threat against police

JACKSON, MI (WILX) -- A man who allegedly made a bomb threat against the Jackson City Police Department has been formally charged.

Frederick Smith, 64, from Jackson is being charged with making a false report or threat of a bomb on the afternoon of July 4.

The punishment is a maximum of four years in jail if convicted.

Police tell News 10 that the man called Jackson County Dispatch and said he was going to bomb the police department.

Police were able to discover where he lived from the call and responded to the area.

They found Smith and questioned him, but he denied making the threat.

The police called the number of the phone that made the call and the phone rang in his pocket.
