JACKSON, MI (WILX) -- Firefighters in Jackson are using new technology that could save your life.
The fire department recently got two new machines called "Lucas 3." Medics can attach these machines to patients who need CPR.
The "Lucas 3" device autonomously performs chest compressions.
The machine is all digital and can sense the weight and size of a patient, which allows it to adjust the compressions accordingly.
"This device follows the patient from the field to the ER, right into the cath lab and you never remove the device, even while they're performing the catheterization," Todd Weaver, of the Jackson Fire Department, said.
"Lucas 3" also has built in breaks allowing first responders to perform rescue breaths.
The Jackson Fire Department started using the device last months following several months of testing.
