The Jackson County Animal Shelter is looking for people to foster animals ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

The shelter said it needs the extra help because of the expected large number of strays to come in over the holiday weekend.

Statistically, more animals are picked up over the Fourth of July than any other time of the year because of fireworks. The sounds cause many animals to become scared and run off.

If you want to help, the shelter said you must come in to fill out an application. It said the foster commitment is flexible, but it must happen before July 4.

The shelter said a 24-hour emergency assistance line is available for fosters, as well as food, beds, and other necessities.
