Lansing, MI (WILX) Retailer J. Crew has decided to shut down twice as many stores as it originally planned.
50 stores will close by the end of January. Same-store sales are down 12% in the most recent quarter, continuing a long streak of declines.
The retailer failed to keep up with the digital age and also jacked up prices at a time when customers were increasingly cost-conscious, according to a May interview in The Wall Street Journal with the now former CEO.
J. Crew has yet to say which stores will be closing. It has four locations in Michigan, including one at the Eastwood Towne Center.
