WASHINGTON (CNN) - Add another name to the list of those seeking to become the Democratic Presidential candidate in 2020.
Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard announced on CNN Friday night that she has decided to throw her hat in the ring. She says she will make a formal announcement next week.
Rep. Gabbard says her campaign plans to focus on issues such as health care, criminal justice reform and climate change.
The 37-year-old was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012 and is the first Hindu member of Congress.
She was a high-profile supporter of Sen. Bernie sanders' bid to win the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2016.
She faced wide criticism in 2017 for meeting with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
