Haslett Community Church goes green
Haslett Community Church is preparing to activate its new 60 panel, 20 kilowatt rooftop solar energy system. It will be the largest photo-voltaic array in Meridian Township. Joyce Bartels passed away last year at the age of 90 but dedicated her life to environmental sustainability.
In her memory, Haslett Community Church decided to do something they say she'd be pleased with.
"She was very big in this church. She was a member for over 50 years...Very promoting of her green philosophy, and the church has adopted many of its principles," her daughter, Elizabeth Bartels, said.
The new solar project that will be on the roof will provide two-thirds of the church's electricity needs so they can operate the six freezers and two refrigerators they use to serve 200 families in need every year through the Haslett Community Food Pantry.
The church's Green Team combined with the Michigan Interfaith Power and Light and Peninsula Solar is helping the church to save $3,000 annually.
