HOLT & GRAND LEDGE, Mich. (WILX)-- Local students are turning their long time rivalry into some friendly competition to help raise money for Mid-Michigan's homeless population.
November 12th to 16th, 2018 is National Homeless Awareness week. Students from Holt High School and Grand Ledge High School are collecting spare change in what they call a "Penny War." Over the past three years of competing to raise money, they have raised nearly $10,000. They have teamed up with a local organization called Cardboard Prophets, which helps feed, house and provide mobility to the homeless population in Mid-Michigan.
