Grass Lake's Miss Michigan speaks up for Flint water crisis during pageant
Miss Michigan may not have won last night's Miss America pageant in Atlantic City but it's what she said that's making waves on social media now.
Emily Sioma of Grass Lake, and all of the other contestants, had the opportunity to introduce themselves during the parade of states.
That introduction on national television lasted ten seconds, but she made them count.
Emily Sioma said, "From the state with 84 percent of the world's fresh water, but none for its residents to drink, I am miss Michigan Emily Sioma."
Those words lit up social media with many supporting Sioma's clear dis at Michigan and how city officials handled the Flint Water Crisis.
Others felt she should have supported her home state instead of bashing it.
Miss New York won the pageant.
Fun Fact: This was the first pageant held without a swimsuit competition in nearly a century.
