TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (WILX) Grand Traverse Bay has officially frozen over. That's how cold temperatures are getting in the northern part of the state.

The bay is considered frozen over when the ice reaches Power Island and stays for at least 24 hours.

According to a baykeeper, this is only the 6th time in 20 years that the bay has frozen over.

The watershed will monitor ice levels and log the number of days the bay stays frozen.
