GOP lawmakers say their budget would not effect schools

LANSING, MI (WILX) - The sales tax collected at the gas pumps in Michigan may get shifted to road repairs under a budget plan approved by the state's House of Representatives Thursday.

GOP lawmakers claim they have structured the plan so that schools and municipalities that currently get this money from the state's gas sales tax would not be affected.

Democrats, however, are skeptical saying the spending bills would not do enough to improve the roads and ultimately would create new fiscal problems for education and local governments.
