The Ingham County Animal Control & Shelter is offering free pet adoptions to veterans and active service members, along with members of their households, next week in honor of Veterans Day.

The fees will be waived from November 13 - 17. The shelter will be closed on Nov. 12 in honor of the holiday.

Having a pet at home can help a Veteran transition back to civilian life by providing thm unconditional love and support, as well as help with the stress of PTSD.

“It feels good to know these animals and people can go on and help each other. The dogs and cats at the shelter are looking for a new home to start a new life with. What better home then with someone who’s done our country an incredible service.” Says interim Deputy Director Kate Turner. “All next week we are trying to make those connections happen, and there will be no adoption fee for pets going home with veterans.”

In order to adopt, Veterans must bring in their military ID to qualify.

Adoptions will still be subject to normal approval procedures and restrictions.

The shelter currently has over 65 adoptable cats and 35 adoptable dogs looking for new forever homes.
