LANSING, MI (WILX) -- A new report shows that there is a shortage of homes for foster children in Michigan.

In Michigan, over 13,000 kids are in foster care.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said it needs as many foster homes as possible to best meet the needs of individual children.

The state said there are 6,000 homes currently ready to take on children, many that are licensed for more than one child.

Other children are also placed with family who are not licensed.

Bottom line...the state is still looking for more homes to welcome foster children.

May is "Foster Care Awareness Month," and the state hopes to have people step up and provide a safe, stable, and loving home.
