People who stocked up on Forever stamps have reason to smile today... the cost of a Forever stamp has just gone up.

First class stamps officially increased from 50 cents to 55 cents on Sunday. That's the biggest increase, ever.

The price of Priority Mail is also up about 6%.

That means the small flat-rate box that used to cost $7.20 to mail, now costs almost $8 to send.

However, additional letter ounce costs will decrease. So, if you're mailing a 2-ounce letter, the average weight of a wedding invitation, it will cost you 70 cents instead of 71 cents.

Last year, the Postal Service reported a $4 billion loss, due to higher labor and transportation costs.
