OLIVET, Mich. (WILX)-- Olivet College is starting the school year off with its first-ever Olivet College Music Festival on Saturday, August 25th from 1:00 p.m. - 10 p.m. News 10's Lora Painter has an inside look at what it takes to put on this festival and who the performers will be.
The field next to Cutler Event Center will transform into festival grounds featuring live music, art and food vendors. This first of its kind festival is organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the event aims to raise money and bring the Olivet community together.
Zach Oshinsky, a student representative within SAAC and founder of Olivet College Music Festival, said, "I love to see people who are at the grass roots of it succeed, and I just want to give not well- known musicians a platform to play."
All ticket sale proceeds will support the SAAC and their yearly philanthropic activities. In the past, they've worked with organizations like Special Olympics and clinics put on by members of athletic teams for kids in the community. The proceeds for the event are going to be used in a variety of ways such as; putting on more events with special olympics and charity events like a blanket one we did this last year and ultimately another music festival.
SAAC functions as a liaison between student-athletes and the college's administration. It is designed to give members the opportunity to take on leadership roles and promotes the exchange of ideas and development of comradery among student-athletes of different sports.
