Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed 6 units of an apartment complex in Lansing.

News 10 went out to investigate the scene at Woodside Meadows complex on Seaway Drive in Lansing.

Nearby neighbors say that the fire may have been set on purpose by a group of boys.

Firefighters responded to the Woodside Meadows complex on the 400 block of Seaway drive at about 8:30 Friday night.

Lansing Fire Chief Steve Mazurk told News 10 that he is unsure about how the fire started.

Chief Mazurk says it took about an hour to put out by the whole city's department.

He says the building was being renovated at the time so no one was inside and no one was hurt.

Residents say the whole situation was traumatizing.

"He was on the phone and he smelt it and it was just little and then we left and then my daughter Facetimed me and turned the camera around and then it was huge so I didn't see it actually go big but we just seen it start and then and the boys that did it they ran into the woods, said Lily a resident of Woodside Meadows.

Fire Marshalls are investigating how the fire started.
