Family asking for mid-Michigan's help wishing daughter 'Happy Birthday'
A local family is asking the community for help--in wishing their daughter a special happy birthday.
Kylie Hawkins of Lansing is turning 21 years old next week.
She is non-verbal and has Rett syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes developmental delays and other health issues.
To help celebrate the big event, her parents are asking people to send her birthday cards.
"I guess the take away for this that I would like people to have is that just because Kylie's life is a little different than other people's, it still has a lot of value and she deserves to have a good birthday like everyone else," her mother, Kristen Reese said.
Reese said also wants to help raise awareness about Rett syndrome.
If you want to participate, you can send in birthday cards right here to the station. They will be picked up on her birthday, July 15.
