LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -- Police released the name of John Michael-Fredric Bolan, as the man found dead in a fatal fire over the weekend.
He was 43 years old and from Lansing.
Firefighters battled the fire early Sunday at the Lansing Eastside Gateway located at 615 E. Kalamazoo St. at 5:20 in the morning.
When officials arrived, they said there was a lot of "heavy smoke and fire conditions" from the cinder block construction building.
They say that they engaged in "an aggressive interior fire attack."
Within 20 minutes they say that it was no longer safe for interior operations.
While fighting the fire, crews were told someone might have been asleep in the back of the building, however, crews could not gain access to the rear of the building due to structural failure issues.
The fire was finally put out with the assistance of an excavator crew.
Just before 11 a.m., the crews found a body inside a section of the burned out building.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lansing Fire Department says the cause remains under investigation.
In a Facebook post Sunday evening, the center thanked people for the outpouring of support.
Lansing Eastside Gateway is "an incubator for small businesses," according to its website. It refers to itself as a "hyper-local mini-mall."
