SAUGATUCK, MI (WILX)-- Stay away from the deer--that's the message from Michigan's Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to residents and visitors after a friendly deer visited Saugatuck's beach during the Fourth of July weekend.

Cellphone video shows the small buck standing in the surf of Lake Michigan with beach-goers at Saugatuck Dune State Park last Saturday.

As you can see the deer was not frightened of people nearby.

WOOD TV reports that MDNR is telling people who encounter the deer to not touch it, feed it, or go near it.

MDNR says it is monitoring the deer's behavior.
