MERIDIAN TWP., Mich. (WILX) -- Christmas tree disposal began Wednesday for local communities.

Meridian Township residents can drop off their trees free of charge at the Nancy Moore Park in Haslett until Jan. 21.
Trees should be free of any wire, metal bracing, plastic bags or nails.
Residents also can recycle trees at the Meridan Township Recycling Center. Fees do apply. A 6-foot tree will cost $5, $10 for larger trees and $5 for artificial trees.
Delta Township residents can take their trees to the parks and recreation building.
Curbside pickup of trees began Wednesday in East Lansing. Those who are interested will need to make a request in advance.
And, in Lansing, curbside tree pickup also began Wednesday.
All trees must be free of any decorations, lights and wires.
