Childhood infections may affect you in adulthood

A serious infection in childhood may have consequences later in life.

A new study finds people, who had been hospitalized for infections, had a greater risk of developing a mental disorder.

Findings show people who had serious infections faced an 84% increased risk of mental disorder diagnosis, while those with less serious infections lived with a 42% risk.

Researchers say the study shows a correlation between infections and mental disorders, but does not necessarily mean one causes the other.
