CHICAGO, IL (WILX) - The city of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs awoke to severe thunderstorms moving across area Thursday morning.
This was prior to the start of a dangerous heat wave the city has been expecting..
The storms started during rush hour Thursday morning and are expected to continue through the late morning and early afternoon hours.
Meteorologists have predicted the potential for wind gusts of up to 50 mph, heavy rain and small hail from some of the storms moving through the Chicagoland area.
Flights have been delayed in and out of both O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport.
Currently there is a traffic management or ground stop at both facilities. This means flights to the airport are being delayed at their departure points.
You may want to check with your airline, if you have any flights schedule into or out of either one of Chicago's airports.
